Cable it and forget it. Computer and telephone office wiring could last 10 years before it outlives the performance design of network ports in your computers and telephone PBX switch. Office cable types are rated in Megahertz Bandwidth. Cat5, Cat6 and Fiber offer differing bandwidth capabilities. Bandwidth is the amount of digital space (traffic lanes) available to push your data or voices down the wire. The more workers you have on computers connected to your network in Boston or anywhere you work, the more average bandwidth you will consume at any one time.
Cat 5e is rated at 100MHZ. Cat 6 is rated at 200MHZ bandwidth. Newer computers use 1GB bandwidth network cards. For a single computer or for offices with 10-200 computers that use wordprocessing, databases and spreadsheets routinely, this is not a problem for Cat5e or Cat6. There are limits to how far a Cat 5e or Cat 6 data cable can be from the aggregator ( patch panel), but longer distances can easily be manageable. In large installations there are a series of wiring systems. Large offices may have several wire closets that are commonly referred to as IDFs or MDFs. These have telco punch down blocks, telco company feeder cable, internet service provider DSU and CSU units, and it is common to find a variety of network switches, wifi routers, patch panels and punch down blocks in these areas. These rooms are used to interconnect all vendor supplied circuits for telephone, FIOS, CABLE, and Internet Service Providers. In large offices it is common to have multiple wiring closets per floor.
The bandwidth crunch comes when you access the internet to download movies, music, large digital files, graphics and audio. Boston businesses are now embracing voice over IP. VOIP uses the office network working to connect telephones to automated telephone system switches. Slower rated cabling is overloaded even more if your company uses an Intranet web server or internal media server to display live video and audio.Add up the number of people that will need maximum bandwidth and you can make a solid case for purchasing Cat 6 cabling over the cheaper Cat 5e.
Enter Cat 6 –a slightly more expensive cable type for office wiring. And, Cat 6 accommodates the new movement for using Voice over IP telephones better than Cat 5e does. A 20-30 percent price increase may be justifiable for Cat 6 in certain situations.
We will wire office telephone closets and data racks, install jacks and wall plates, lay out fiber cabling, design cabling systems, connect IDFs, MDFs and patch panels to network switches, routers, firewalls and servers.
We have implemented integrated INET cable wired head ends with public television quality video recording cameras with preview and source monitors, passive or active video switchers, video telephony, ISDN, and IP based video conferencing equipment from PolyCom and Panasonic, microphones and public address audio amplifiers.
And our partners know small area, scheduled patrol, and campus area security systems that will monitor entrances, exits and human authorized and unauthorized activity.
